Education

 MEANING

The root of word Education is derived from Latin words EDUCARE, EDUCERE and EDUCATUM. 

EDUCARE means to nourish, to bring up.

EDUCERE means to lead, to draw out.

EDUCATUM is itself composed of two terms, "E" and "Duco". "E" implies a movement from inward to outward and "Duco" means developing or progressing.

Two prominent words in Sanskrit which stand out as equivalent of terms Education are " Shiksha" and "Vidya".

Shiksha word is derived from "Shah" meaning "to control" or "to discipline".

Vidya is derived from "Vidh" means "to know".

Discipline amnd Knowledge were the most important aspect of human personality during ancient period of education.

Education is the process of facilitating learning, knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits of a group of people are transferred to other people through storytelling, discussion,teaching, training, or research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators. Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational.

By educating an individual we attempt to give him some desirable knowledge, understanding, skills, interests, attitudes and critical thinking. He develops some understanding about the deeper things in life, the complex human relations, and the cause and effect relationship and so on.He gets some skills in writing, speaking, calculating, drawing, operating some equipment etc. He develops some interests in social work, democratic living, co-operative management and so on.

Thus, a person has to acquire all the qualities of head, hand and heart through the process of Education.


DEFINITIONS

1) Rig-Veda – Education man self-reliant and others.

(2) Upanishads –The end product of Education is to get salvation.

(3) Shankaracharya- Education is the realization of the Self.

(4) Kautilya- Education means training for the country and love for the nation.

(5) Aurobindo- Education means helping the growing soul to draw out that is in itself.

(6) Tagore- Education enables the mind to find out the ultimate truth, which gives us the wealth of inner light and love and gives significance to life.

(7) Vivekananda- Education is the manifestation of divine perfection already existing in man.

(8) Gandhiji- By education, I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit.

(9) Plato- Education is the capacity to feel pleasure and pain at the right moment.

(10) Aristotle- Education is the creation of a sound mind in a sound body.
